Double the Fun

The other day I had to brave the grocery store with the two yahoos. I needed something so I could make dinner....and there was no way to get around it. I typically try to AVOID taking both the kids to grocery stores by myself. Mr. C is to the age where ridding in the cart is just plain un-cool, but he has yet to master the not running away part yet either. However, I must say he is getting better and if it is just the two of us he is totally manageable. The problem with giving Mr.C a little independence is Sweet E thinks she is entitled to such privileges, and she is TOTALLY not ready for that. But to be fair when it is just the two of us and we are running into a store for something quick I sometimes let her walk....but I usually end up regretting it. Anyway, knowing that there was no way dinner would get finished on time I decided to be brave and take both the kids into the grocery store. I made Sweet E sit in the cart and Mr. C walked. However, once we entered the door and Mr.C saw the new display of pumpkins all hopes of an easy trip flew out the window. Sweet E stood up and started to straddle the edge of the cart trying to bail. I finally just took her out and let them look at the pumpkins. I then bribed the kids that if they could be good while I picked up a few things that they could pick out a doughnut with Halloween sprinkles. They tried to behave, but all of the Halloween stuff was causing them to get worked up in a tizzy! On two different occasions people asked me if they were twins, when I said no they said "oh are they close in age" when I responded that they are 2 years apart they seemed shocked. I must have looked like I had my hand full.....which I am sure I did....we were having our own little 3 ring circus right in the middle of the produce section. Then there was a grandma lady who was dying LAUGHING at us as I was trying to rush over to stop the blood pressure machine from cutting off all circulation to Mr.C's arm as Sweet E was trying to play escape artist again. It was a NIGHTMARE....but we survived. Next time I think we will just have Mac' and Cheese for dinner !!

That's hilarious. So this is what I have to look forward to. I already feel like a spectacle at the grocery store:)

Let's see my kidos are 13, 10 and 7. I still don't take them to the grocery store unless it's absoluteluy, 100% necessary. It's still a nightmare. It doesn't get easier. They still have a list of wants a mile long. Just know that we've all been there. The spectical in the grocery store.

I always wait to go grocery shopping with Jeremy! I never take the boys by myself. Sometimes I feel like a slacker, but it's trouble enough with both of us there corralling the boys together.

I took B & A to the store in MI and their Mom had given me a "treat" of string cheese to give them. A waited until we were leaving to want hers, so I quickly opened it and handed it to her in her car seat. BAD IDEA! "I open it myself!!!" screamed A complete with tears and kicking. What could I do? I couldn't "reglue" the packing back together and didn't have another one. I was so flustered that I forgot about the "trick" M had told me on how to start his car with the bad battery and did it wrong, thus killing the battery and having to call for reinforcements. M came to our rescue, and thankfully by then A wasn't having quite the fit. I guess the moral of the story is, as your Aunt said, "It doesn't get any better than this!" :) My sister-in-law, Sue, used to say "Always head to the bakery and buy a cookie first thing, then while they're eating it, you can shop." But that's if they're in the cart! I always swore I'd never use those ridiculous, unmanageable, huge "car" grocery carts they have now, but I ate my words when O ran straight for it and climbed right in. I wasn't going to argue with him! Nonny
